چکیده

The seminar discusses basic concepts of turbulence modeling in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). There are two mainstreams present in the field of interest. The first one are so called Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) models. RANS models are most widely used nowadays. Therefore theoretical aspects of RANS models are presented in more detail. The second mainstream presents direct numerical simulations and large eddy simulations. These models are important since they have the potential to model turbulence in a much more general and better way than RANS models. Basic concepts regarding large-eddy simulations are also presented in this work. There is also a comparison between RANS models and large-eddy models presented at the end of the seminar.

Turbulence Model Analysis of Flow inside a Hydrocyclone

Turbulence analysis of flow inside a hydrocyclone is carried out using commercially available CFD software ANSYS-CFX (release 11.0). Commercial CFD software(s) and their turbulence models have come a long way in accurately predicting the flow inside a hydrocyclone, both at the mean as well as at the turbulence level. Previous studies have shown, the more accurate the turbulence prediction is, t...

Numerical Simulation of Flash Boiling Effect in a 3-Dimensional Chamber Using CFD Techniques

Flash Boiling atomization is one of the most effective means of generating a fine and narrow-dispersed spray. Unless its complexity its potential has not been fully realized. In This Paper, a three dimensional chamber has been modeled with a straight fuel injector. Effect of Flash Boiling has been investigated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques. A finite volume approach with the ...

Numerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models

There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...
